There's no good reason to tie up your work with an incompetent agent. It's generally not too difficult to get out of a contract with an agent, although it may take some time. Many agents require one- to six-months' written notice of termination; other agency agreements have terms of one to three years; still others just require that you submit the cancellation request in writing. The agent has the right to continue collecting commissions on any deals she's already made for you (which probably isn't a factor if you're ditching her for incompetence), and you're free to seek representation elsewhere.
